FAS Has Postponed The Consideration Of The Pending Sorcerer Case

The Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) of Russia postponed the consideration of the case of abuse by Yandex of a dominant position in the search market to September.

According to the press service of the department:

Due to the need to obtain materials and additional evidence, the consideration of the case has been postponed. The next hearing on the case will take place on September 23.

Note that the case of the wizards in Yandex was supposed to be considered on August 25, however, the antimonopoly service does not yet have all the necessary materials.

Recall that in the summer of 2020, online services Avito, Tutu.ru, CIAN, ivi, and 2GIS wrote a complaint to the FAS that Yandex was abusing its dominant position in the search market and promoting its own products. Services have been advocating for equal access to sorcerers since July 2019.

In February 2021, the FAS issued a warning to Yandex demanding that it stop promoting its services in search within a month. The company was ordered to provide equal conditions for all services by April 1, as well as to disclose the mechanism for promoting links and attracting the attention of users.

Since Yandex did not do this, the FAS filed a case against the company on grounds of violation of clause 8, part 1 of Art. 10 of the Law “On Protection of Competition”.

After that, in May, Yandex published the principles by which third-party services can be presented in search using enriched responses. The company also announced that it will begin testing a new type of widget – partner responses provided on a commercial basis.

In June, the FAS postponed the consideration of the Yandex case to July 21, in July it again postponed it for a month, and now it is again extending the deadline until September 23.
