Roman Korolev, Head of Sales at Yandex 360, expressed concern over the potential implications of Google’s move.
He pointed out that while it’s too early to confirm whether this is a permanent block, the issue raises serious questions about the future of Google services in Russia.
If the restriction remains in place, it could significantly disrupt access to Google services for Russian users, leading to a loss of convenience for both individuals and businesses.
Korolev noted that the Russian tech industry has made significant progress in recent years, with many local companies developing high-quality alternatives to Google’s services. These include email platforms, cloud storage, and document editing tools, which are tailored to the specific needs of the Russian market. He emphasized the importance of preparing for potential long-term changes, encouraging users to explore these alternatives now in case of further restrictions.
Previously, several foreign companies, including Wix, Notion, and Miro, withdrew their services from Russia due to sanctions. This current issue with Google raises concerns that more Western tech services could follow suit.
For now, Russian users are left waiting for an official response from Google to clarify whether the current registration block is just a temporary glitch or a sign of more significant changes to come.
