The share of mobile traffic in RuNet grew in March by a record 4% and amounted to 87%, data from the advertising platform SlickJump showed. According to the service’s analysts, the growth in mobile traffic consumption for the month exceeded the annual dynamics – for the whole of 2021, mobile traffic in Runet grew by 2%.
In March, the share of mobile traffic was 87%. This indicator for Runet is the highest for the entire time of observation. Analysts believed that the value of 85–86% would be reached only in 2025.
According to experts, the growth in the share of mobile traffic is associated with a surge in the popularity of portable devices for content consumption. Such devices are easier to use with VPNs, the use of which has also grown due to the blocking of certain Internet resources.
Anton Ermakov, Executive Director of SlickJump has been quoted:
We note outperforming forecasts of mobile traffic growth. But during the year, the indicators may change. The trend of mass transition of users to mobile devices, of course, continues and we note this. But in the long term, we expect mobile traffic to return to year-on-year forecasts of 83% by the end of 2022.
