Back in June, Yandex shared architect and artist impressions of their new headquarters, and these plans have now been approved by authorities in Moscow.
The Committee for Architecture and Urban Planning of the city of Moscow has approved an architectural solution for the new headquarters of Yandex. The building will be located on the site of the former Korston Hotel in the Gagarinsky District.
The ground floor of the complex will house restaurants, cafes, pharmacies and service companies. The building will also house the Yandex Museum, two large conference rooms, and an educational complex. There is also a multi-level underground parking.
The facades of the building will be faced with light titanium panels, and some of the walls will have stained-glass glazing.
The unusual silhouette and decoration will make Yandex’s new home a local landmark, and a through diagonal passage will connect the building with the surrounding space.
As part of the project, Yandex also plans to improve a large area between Akademik Zeldovich and Akademik Zelinsky streets, which run near the new headquarters. A park with an area of about 2 hectares will appear there.
Yandex employees will be able to get to work on foot, on bicycles, or on free buses from the Universitet, Leninsky Prospekt metro stations and the Gagarin Square MCC station.
The project was developed by the London bureau PLP Architecture, with the chief architect being Lee Polisano. The Russian bureaus APEX and RTDA also participate in the design.
Dismantling of the building of the former Korston Hotel will be completed by the end of 2020.
