The head of the Federal Agency for Tourism Zarina Doguzova on Friday, June 26, named a number of Russian regions that will be open to receiving tourists from within the Russian Federation from July 1.
Doguzova went on record to say that the primary objective for the forthcoming Summer was:
safe and affordable vacations for Russian citizens
The Association of Russian Tour Operators (ATOR) have reported that starting prices for travel packages (including air travel) from Moscow for July 1–4 were 30% lower than the same time period in 2019.
According to ATOR, the predicted, most popular destinations for residents of the country this summer will be staycations in Krasnodar and Stavropol Territories, as well as the Crimea.
Krasnodar is also set to see a large increase in IT infrastructure spending, as previously reported.
In May, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin warned Russian citizens not to plan trips abroad for the foreseeable future in order to minimize the risks of reintroducing the virus back into the country. It still stands that anyone returning to Russia from abroad needs to self-impose a mandatory 14-day quarantine, at their own expense.
What this means for travel consumers & travel companies
As with most countries, staycations will become more popular than ever as people look to take a break from their usual surroundings.
Earlier, in May, Russian President Vladimir Putin instructed to boost the country’s capabilities in domestic tourism with the participation of transport companies, travel agencies, and the hoteliers.
For the most part, this call to action has been heeded with companies gearing up to receive greater than normal numbers during the holiday season.
