The Russian government has officially added Yandex Browser, enhanced with neural network capabilities, to the list of mandatory pre-installed programs on various digital devices, including smartphones, tablets, laptops, and Smart TVs.
This inclusion is part of a broader law, enacted in April 2021, which requires the pre-installation of domestic software on electronic devices sold in Russia.
The Ministry of Digital Development oversees the selection of these applications, with a key criterion being that each app must have an active user base of at least 500,000.
Yandex Browser, which meets this requirement, is among the 40 programs currently mandated for pre-installation.
In February 2024, Yandex Browser integrated cutting-edge neural networks, YandexGPT and YandexART, into its platform. These additions introduced advanced features such as image generation and text processing directly within the browser interface, significantly enhancing user experience.
Yandex Browser has consistently demonstrated superior performance in detecting phishing sites, underscoring its security capabilities.
This latest development reflects the Russian government’s ongoing efforts to promote domestic technology and ensure that popular and effective Russian-made applications are readily available to consumers.
