Yandex Launches Segalovich Foundation

Yandex launched the Ilya Segalovich Foundation, which will, with the help of grants, support organizations and public initiatives that are engaged in high-quality and affordable education. In addition, the fund will continue to develop Yandex’s free educational projects in the field of mathematics and IT. The total amount of grants in 2022 will be 250 million rubles ($3.43m).

Elena Bunina, the CEO of Yandex in Russia has been quoted:

Today, September 13, on the birthday of Ilya Segalovich, we are announcing the creation of a foundation that will bear his name. Ilya was burning with his work, sincerely loved people and helped those who needed it.

For many, he was a mentor and example – a teacher in the highest sense of the word. The foundation will act in the spirit of Ilya – to create educational solutions that, on the one hand, positively affect the life of a particular person, and on the other, improve society as a whole. Good knowledge is an opportunity to realize your potential and feel confident in the future.

The main objectives of the Segalovich Foundation are to:

  • Make modern IT and mathematics education accessible;
  • Develop the education sector using data, methods, and technologies accessible to all;
  • Support teachers and the professional community;
  • Participate in projects that strengthen people’s desire for knowledge, science, and culture.

The experts of the foundation will evaluate the projects of applicants for grants. Among them are representatives of the education sector, well-known public figures, as well as Yandex managers. The names of experts and grant programs will be announced on November 10 at the Yandex conference on the formation of YaC / e.

Note that Yandex has been engaged in educational projects for 15 years, and now they cover about 6 million people: schoolchildren, students, novice specialists, and teachers.

For example, 1.9 million schoolchildren studied using Yandex.Tutorial, more than 1,000 students graduated from the School of Data Analysis, more than 6,500 students graduated from the Yandex Academy Lyceum, and more than 1,500 students are enrolled in joint Yandex programs with universities every year.
