Yandex Leads the Way in Labeling AI-Generated Ads in Russia

Yandex presented a neural network prototype for generating images

Yandex has become the first company in the Russian market to label advertisements generated using artificial intelligence. This new marking feature appears in ads containing images automatically created by the YandexART neural network within Yandex.Direct. Users can identify these AI-generated images by clicking on the three dots in the upper right corner of the ad.

Importance of Transparency

Dmitry Masyuk, Director of the Yandex Search and Advertising Technologies Business Group, emphasized the significance of this initiative:

“Distinguishing between human-created photos and those generated by artificial intelligence can be challenging. That’s why we think it’s important to make people aware that they’re dealing with generative content. We’ve seen an increase in the use of neural images among our advertising partners, so we decided to start labeling them first. In the future, we’ll be developing AI content labeling in our other services as well.”

Growing Use of AI in Advertising

Since 2023, entrepreneurs have had the ability to add creatives from Yandex’s neural networks to their ads at no cost. By June 2024, more than 11% of active advertisers in Yandex.Direct were using illustrations created with YandexART.

Benefits of AI-Generated Content

According to Yandex, the use of neural networks helps businesses achieve more targeted actions and enhances the effectiveness of advertising campaigns. Generative creatives not only boost performance but also save advertisers time and resources.

This pioneering step by Yandex reflects its commitment to transparency and innovation in the advertising industry. As AI-generated content continues to grow in popularity, Yandex plans to expand AI content labeling across its other services.
