South Korean tech companies are preparing to unveil their latest innovations at CES 2024, the world’s largest tech trade show, starting Tuesday in Las Vegas.
This year’s CES, themed “All On,” will focus on the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) across various industries, including smart homes, automotive, infrastructure, and healthcare.
With over 130,000 expected visitors, CES 2024 will host around 3,500 companies from over 150 countries. Korea will be represented by about 700 companies, including major players like Samsung, SK, Hyundai Motor, and LG.
Samsung
Samsung Electronics, the world’s largest smartphone and memory chip manufacturer, will present its AI vision globally for the first time. Vice Chairman Han Jong-hee will deliver a keynote titled “AI for All: Connectivity in the Age of AI” ahead of the event’s opening.
Samsung will showcase AI-powered products such as the Neo QLED and OLED TVs, along with the Galaxy Book 4 series featuring AI technology. The company will also display its latest kitchen innovations, including AI-enhanced appliances like the 2024 Bespoke refrigerator and Anyplace Induction Cooktop.
In automotive tech, Samsung will highlight its partnership with Tesla, integrating SmartThings Energy with Tesla products. Samsung’s subsidiary Harman will also display its in-car infotainment technologies.
SK
SK Group’s seven affiliates, including SK hynix and SK Telecom, will showcase a 1,850-square-meter pavilion themed “Inspire Happiness.” SK will present net-zero technologies, high-performance chips, and innovations in urban air mobility and small modular reactors.
SK hynix will introduce its fifth-generation HBM3E memory chips, designed for AI technologies. The group will also display eco-friendly construction materials and solutions for the low-carbon future. Chairman Chey Tae-won is expected to attend and observe global AI trends.
LG
LG Electronics plans to unveil AI-driven products under the theme “Reinvent Your Future.” CEO Cho Joo-wan will present the company’s AI-based smart home technologies, which can monitor users’ heart rates and breathing patterns to optimize home environments. LG will also showcase its QNED TV lineup and a two-legged robot capable of engaging in conversations.
In mobility, LG will present a new concept car and cockpit platform called “Alpha-able,” alongside its automotive electronics innovations. LG Innotek will focus on semiconductor products for data analysis and processing.
Hyundai Motor
Hyundai Motor aims to spotlight software-defined vehicles (SDVs), hydrogen-powered mobility, and urban air mobility innovations. Hyundai plans to transition its entire fleet into SDVs by 2025, featuring advanced autonomous driving technologies.
Hyundai’s urban air mobility subsidiary, Supernal, will present its air mobility aircraft, designed to alleviate urban congestion. The company will also unveil strategies for hydrogen-powered mobility, investing heavily in hydrogen cell development for a carbon-neutral future.
Kia
Kia will highlight its purpose-built vehicles (PBVs), designed for specific applications and featuring modular designs for versatility.
Kia’s PBVs are expected to play a role in future transportation, including robotaxis and autonomous cargo transport. The company plans to mass-produce PBVs by 2025, investing around 1 trillion won in a new plant.
HD Hyundai
HD Hyundai will present its “Xite Transformation” vision, focusing on land infrastructure innovations.
The company’s three subsidiaries—HD Hyundai XiteSolution, HD Hyundai Construction Equipment, and HD Hyundai Infracore—will showcase uncrewed and automated technologies aimed at tackling global issues like climate change and supply chain challenges.
